Induction Ceremony

The School of Planning is a unique community of students, staff, faculty and supporters with vibrant and formal ties to the profession of Planning.  Unlike typical university programs, we begin by recognizing that you have not only chosen to study Planning, but in doing so have also chosen a career path.  A critical part of being a professional in Planning is a commitment to the ideals of the Public Interest and a commitment to the code of practice that governs what we do.  The Induction Ceremony is our chance to celebrate the beginning of your educational journey and through this rite of passage, introduce you to the profession.

Our first Ceremony of Induction was celebrated in September 1999, and has since become a proud tradition for the School and the incoming class.  It is an event that combines a relaxed networking event, and a formal ceremony where students are introduced to the School as they cross the stage to be welcomed by our School Director, Dr. Clarence Woudsma, and the President of The Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI), Andrea Bourrie.  Representatives from University Administration, School of Planning Alumni, Planning Student Association, and local stakeholders will also be present to witness your induction and bring their congratulations.

Why should you attend?

The Induction Ceremony is a wonderful tradition in the School of Planning and should not be missed. We really value the chance to welcome you in this ceremony, which is the perfect balance to our other favourite ceremony – The Graduation Luncheon.   See you in September!
