Many of our clients have had great experiences from working with students on projects. Having a fresh outlook on the field of Planning with newly gained knowledge and expertise, the students were able to assist our clients with their tasks diligently. Over the years, several clients have expressed their gratitude for the School of Planning and the tremendous assistance our students have provided them, a few of which can be read below!
I had the pleasure of working with the University of Waterloo School of Planning for some twenty years and I can strongly recommend their PLAN 405 - Integrated Planning Project course. In my opinion it does not just give students great exposure to the work in the industry once they’re graduating, but it also offers great advantages to the employers using their services.
When taking to such complex challenges, the students had a very well structured and enthusiastic approach, doing very helpful research, understanding the issues at stake and came with good ideas and proposed approaches. Throughout the process they acted very professionally - an excellent sign of the good education they are receiving. The outcome was of good quality, very helpful for the city planning process, and provided excellent value.
The projects, process and the partnership with the School and program were very beneficial to the City not just in terms of advancing research, studying complex sites and issues for future policy and development framework updates, exploring alternative options and innovative approaches, but also identifying and securing young talent (we have hired a few UofW graduates following their work with us).
I am looking forward to working with the School and the program again and strongly recommend their services to all employers.

The quality of work received from the students was not only timely, comprehensive and detailed-oriented, but also quite impressive. The final product ended up being used as an important resource for our staff. We would definitely consider taking part in this program again.

I engaged with two student teams to undertake the creation of new sustainable development guidelines for the David Johnston Research + Technology Park. Each team produced comprehensive background reports and Sustainable Development Handbooks to guide future development in the Park. The students were enthusiastic, professional, and very thorough in their work. Their background reports and recommendations were fantastic. They needed little supervision, were highly independent, and used their time with me very efficiently. I look forward to engaging with the School of Planning on many future projects.

The PLAN 405 students we worked with at THEMUSEUM were professional and considerate, and brought a great deal of initiative and strategic focus to a project that will provide a strong foundation for future planning at THEMUSEUM. Our team would be thrilled to take part in the program again!
