Clothing

 If you have used clothing, bring it to one of these drop off locations managed by Sustainable Campus Initiative! They sell or recycle all used textiles.

  • CLV: Laundry room

  • CMH: Beside front desk by window

Confidential Shredding

To ensure that confidential paper documents are securely and completely destroyed in the most economical manner, the University has purchased an industrial capacity shredder. Confidential materials will be shredded onsite in a secure area monitored by closed-circuit television cameras. Under normal circumstances, materials will be shredded within 24 hours of pick up by Central Stores. Visit the Central Stores confidential shredding page for instructions on proper disposal.

Electronic waste sorting guide

E-waste is collected by Central Stores and prepped in the ECH warehouse for pickup by a university/government approved E-waste recycler. Call Central Stores x32821 to arrange for a pickup at your office or lab.

Central Stores is an official E-waste drop off location, so if you have personal items (at home), you can drop the items off at Central Stores, 263 Phillip Street, Waterloo any time Monday to Friday between 7:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Small e-waste items (e.g. keyboards, mice, writing utensils, ink/toner cartridges, cell phones, cables, cameras, tablets) can be dropped off in several e-waste bins across campus:

  • DC: Library
  • SLC: Lower Atrium
  • V1: Front desk

Larger e-waste items can be dropped off at Central Stores, East Campus Hall. For a full list of acceptable items and drop-off procedures, please visit the Central Stores website.

For more information on the proper handling of hazardous waste materials, visit the Safety Office's Hazardous Waste Standard. If you have a large amount of hazardous waste that needs to be collected, please contact Greg Friday (ext. 35755) from the Safety Office.
