U.W.P.S. Crime Report– Weeks of May 27 to June 10, 2014

U.W.P.S. make arrests of bike theft suspects

  1. On June 7th at 4:35 p.m. U.W.P.S. officers observed two males acting suspiciously in the area of bike racks at QNC and SLC. It was determined that both males had been trespassed from UW property on an earlier date by U.W.P.S. officers. During the course of investigating the activities of the males it is alleged that one of the males assaulted one of the investigating officers. Subsequently both males were arrested and Waterloo Regional Police were called in to assist the U.W.P.S. officers resulting in several criminal charges.  The officer involved received minor injuries in the incident.

o   A 32 year old Waterloo male, with no affiliation to UW, is charged with the following offences:

·         Assault Police, Utter Threats, Possess Break In Tools, Fail to Comply with OIC Undertaking, and Breach Probation.

o   A 23 year old Waterloo male, with no affiliation to UW is charged with the following offences:

·         Possession of Break In Tools, Breach Recognizance and Breach Probation

Both males were turned over to Waterloo Regional Police and were held in custody for a show cause hearing.

2.   On June 8th and 7:30 a.m. a U.W.P.S. officer observed a male acting suspiciously at the bike     rack at QNC. Investigation revealed this male had removed several parts from bikes at the rack. He was also found in possession of bolt cutters.

o   A 44 year old Waterloo male, with no affiliation to UW, is charged with the following offences:

·         Attempt Theft, Possess break in tools, Obstruct police, and Breach probation

This male was turned over to Waterloo Regional Police and held in custody for a show cause hearing.

               

Thefts:

  • Bikes (5):

o   ECH rack – between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on May 22

  •   Men’s hybrid bike, black

o   PAC – rack outside Red North entrance - between 5:50 and 7:10 p.m. on May27th

  • Devinci District 1, Dirt Jumper, matte black

o   Rack between CEIT and ESC – between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.pm. on May 30th

  • Kona Blast 21 speed mountain bike
  • Black and blue, silver bar ends, black water cage, toe straps and a black rear fender

o   Bike Seat from bike at EV3 front entrance racks – between 11:15 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. on June 9th

  • black, gray and white racing seat

o   South side MC rack – at 9:50 a.m. June 10

  • Men’s Reebok Antic, grey and black
  • Suspect observed taking bike is described as follows:
  • Male, white, 40 – 45 years old, grey hair but balding, white t-shirt, grey pants, wearing sunglasses and a large black backpack

Graffiti:

On May 28th several graffiti tags were found on the exterior walls on the southwest corner of the Math and Computer building. The words “COMMUTE WORK COMMUTE SLEEP”, “CONSUME CONFORM” and “WORK STUDY PLAY OBEY” were found stenciled in red and yellow paint.
