U.W.P.S. Crime Report– Week of Sept. 30 to Oct. 6, 2014

Assault:

On Wednesday October 1st at 11:40 p.m. UWPS officers were called to the Bombshelter for a report of an unruly customer.

Investigation revealed a male student at the bar had been involved in prohibited activities and had been directed to leave by security staff. The student refused to comply and challenged the staff that they would have to throw him out. In the process of removing him it is alleged the student assaulted three members of the security staff.

The 22 year old student was arrested and charged with three counts of assault. He is scheduled to attend Kitchener court on November 18th.

False Fire Alarm:

At 1:37 a.m. on Saturday October 4th, UWPS officers and Waterloo Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at the Wilmot Court residence. The building was evacuated and a subsequent search revealed there was no fire.

The cause of the alarm was found to be a falsely activated pull station alarm on the first floor by stairway 52.

This type of incident is taken very seriously by U.W.P.S.  It results in a danger to people inside the building who have to evacuate. There is also a danger for the fire departments and other emergency services personnel who respond in the belief there is a fire. These incidents are rigorously investigated by police and where those responsible are identified they will be charged criminally.

Police encourage anyone that has information regarding a fire alarm being falsely activated to report to their Don or U.W.P.S.
