Political Science 244 - Irrational/Rational Choices for Professor Jingjing Huo

Political Science 231 - Politics & Business for Professor Heather Whiteside

What were your duties as a TA?   Did you run any activities?

Each course offered a similar and unique duties, which allowed for variety of ways to help teach the undergraduate students. For example, in PSCI 260, I ran a simulation that was created by the professor. The simulation was similar to a court proceeding and I received very positive feedback of this tutorial method.

All courses I TAed for I had the opportunity to mark, both essays and/or exams, which I considered an invaluable experience. In addition, I ran tutorial discussions, which required me to establish discussion questions and answer any theories or questions that undergraduate students raised during the session.

What did you learn/other thoughts about the experience?

The chance to have this experience was invaluable and enjoyable. It was an irreplaceable and instrumental learning experience for my future plans and career objectives.

I ran in-class simulations in my tutorials, putting the students in various challenging scenarios, where they had to work together, and apply their knowledge of politics and negotiation.

What did you like best?

I really enjoyed leading the tutorial discussions; the conversation was always interesting, which made the experience a lot of fun.

What did you learn/other thoughts about the experience?

Having entered the position with a deep fear of speaking in front of groups, the welcoming and friendly classroom environment made it easy to overcome. The public speaking skills that I developed during my time as a TA are invaluable.
