In December we had a really meaningful event on campus: we celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Founders’ Dinner which ultimately led to the establishment of the University of Waterloo.
The people in this photo are all family members of Waterloo's founders. It was fascinating to hear stories about what it meant to our founders to be bringing a new kind of university into the world. Our guests that evening knew in a very personal way that establishing this university was an act of entrepreneurship. We were a startup, and we took off.
Fast forward about six decades and the unique model we established at our founding is churning out some amazing results. We’ve got some particularly exciting news on the entrepreneurship side this month: our Velocity ventures have now raised a total of more than $300M in capital investment. We passed that milestone with Vidyard’s announcement that they just raised $49M ($35M USD) in Series C funding.
It was barely a year ago we announced the $100M mark with this video!
Take a minute to tweet a congratulations to @UWVelocity and @vidyard.
