Introducing the University of Waterloo’s 11th chancellor: Dominic Barton

Chancellor Dominic Barton

I am delighted to welcome Dominic Barton to the University of Waterloo community as our 11th chancellor.

The chancellor should embody the traditions and values that make our University the dynamic centre for learning and research that it is today. Dominic’s passion for creating positive change through innovation, diversity and equity during his career at McKinsey & Company shows that his values are in sync with the University of Waterloo.

As a fellow HeForShe IMPACT 10x10x10 Champion, Dominic has made it his goal to strengthen equity and diversity across McKinsey’s global operations and be a positive example in the world of business. His commitment to initiatives that have a global vision and scope, like HeForShe, are reshaping industries and as we move forward with our own HeForShe commitments, it is exciting to now work even closer together on this important movement.

While Dominic leads a global organization with 27,000 employees his dedication to Canada and its future prosperity are important to him. He chairs the Government of Canada’s Advisory Council on Economic Growth, tasked to help guide our economy through a turbulent and shifting new economy.

Our University is dedicated to preparing our students to take on this new economy with a focus on developing a global perspective and a dedication to an entrepreneurial spirit that enables them to shape the future.

Dominic is joining a University of Waterloo community that has made, and continues to make, significant impact on Canada and the world and I am pleased to welcome him to the most innovative university in Canada.
