Canadians everywhere are appalled by the scale of the damage resulting from the fires around Fort McMurray. On behalf of the entire University of Waterloo community, I extend our sincere sympathy to the thousands of Canadians impacted by the fires.
I know many UWaterloo community members will consider joining me in supporting the relief efforts. (For those interested, here’s a great overview of how you can maximize your contribution.)
The University of Waterloo’s relationships in Alberta are strong and lasting. We have a thriving alumni base in Alberta, many excellent co-op employers, and active research teams - all of whom are safe and accounted for at this time.
I look forward to building on our partnerships in Wild Rose country. As the situation stabilizes and we look for new ways to connect with the people of that great province, I want Albertans — and UWaterloo people with Alberta roots — to know that we are committed to our stakeholders in Alberta. We’re there to stay.
