After careful consideration, aided through guidance from all levels of government, Public Health and our peer institutions from across Canada, I announced that the University of Waterloo has suspended on-campus courses until March 23. All in-person course activity is cancelled until the end of term, including in-person final exams, due to the continuing challenges COVID-19 has created.
I believe it is important to explain that this decision was made through extensive consultations within our community, including students, faculty and staff. When making these choices we did so with the following three principles in mind: student safety, academic integrity and fairness to our campus community members.
We will continue to monitor the situation and share updates as they become available. We have had a dedicated team following the COVID-19 crisis since January, with a focus on providing our Waterloo community with reliable information.
Our students continue to inspire me with their resilience. We are dedicated to ensuring the best academic progress of our students. In the face of global challenges, we hope the actions we have taken provide some clarity to our students and the confidence that they can complete their academic term.
Thank you to our faculty and staff for your ongoing support of our students.
