What is psychological health?
A psychologically healthy and safe workplace is one that promotes employees’ psychological well-being and actively works to prevent harm to employee psychological health due to negligent, reckless or intentional acts.
The focus is not on individual employees’ health status but rather on organizational factors.
The University of Waterloo is promoting workplace wellness and improving psychological health and safety with the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace.
Good mental health is the foundation that allows an individual to function at his or her best. It sustains coherent thinking and creativity. And it reinforces the confidence to take risks and to innovate. The university is committed to directly supporting our faculty and staff, as well as our students, as they go about their daily lives, their work and their studies.
