I received my Honour’s BA from the University of Waterloo, and MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan in 1985 and 1989, respectively.
I am a registered psychologist and Director of the Centre for Mental Health Research since 2008. Prior to joining the University of Waterloo full-time, I held positions as staff psychologist at Cambridge Memorial Hospital (1989-91) and Lutherwood Children’s Mental Health Services (1991-96). From 1996-2008 I held senior management positions at Lutherwood. In addition, I have carried a small caseload of private practice patients throughout my career, supervised clinical Ph.D. students since 1997, and have taught graduate level child clinical courses since 2006.
Clinical and Research Interests
I teach child psychopathology/psychotherapy in uWaterloo’s graduate program. As a clinical supervisor, I emphasize Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Interpersonal and Family Therapies. In the past, I have published articles on self-blame, perfectionism and clinical psychology training. My current research interest is in the area of mechanisms of effectiveness in psychotherapy. In particular, I am looking to implement psychotherapy research into the operations of the Centre for Mental Health Research.
I am member of The Canadian and American Psychological Associations.
I was previously a Board member on the Ontario Psychological Association and Canadian Mental Health Association’s Waterloo Region branch.

You are welcome to drop by my office during office hours. For appointments longer than 15 minutes, an appointment is preferred.
To book an appointment, please send me your request by email. Put 'appointment request' in the subject line of the message. Suggest 2 to 3 dates/times to meet and the topic for discussion. I will reply to confirm.
I typically do not do assessments of remaining degree requirements during appointments. Those requests can be made/done by email. If after receiving the assessment an appointment is necessary, we can set one up at that time.
