Psychology programs prior to Fall 2016

Please note, the information provided on this page is supplementary to the total requirements outlined on the Undergraduate Studies Academic Calendar. Students are ultimately responsible for understanding and meeting their academic requirements.

You can find the calendar requirements for the year you were admitted on the list of undergraduate studies archived calendars.

Students may request to switch to a newer version of the calendar as long as they are enrolled in courses during that calendar year (for example, a student switching to the 2016/2017 calendar must be enrolled in courses Fall 2016 or later).

Because our Psychology plans went through major changes in Fall 2016, we have archived old requirements for those students who are still following the old plans to reference. Please find the links below.

  • Choose from a single Honours Major or a Joint Honours program.
  • Psych 291 (Research Methods) and Psych 292 (Basic Data Analysis) will introduce you to the scientific methods for understanding mind and behaviour.

Joint Honours (BA or BSc)  Psychology Programs  prior to Fall 2016

Joint Honours Psychology Program Requirements prior to Fall 2016

The Psychology courses (PSYCH) required for Joint Honours Psychology (pre 2016) are the same as for "Old" Honours BA Psychology (BA) (single Major) with the following exception:

  1. Those in the single Major take 9.0 units of PSYCH courses whereas those in "Old" Joint Honours Psychology take 8.0 units. There are two psychology course waivers (total of 1.0 units) for "Old" Joint Honours Psychology.
  • These course waivers are determined in consultation with the Psychology Undergraduate Advisor and should be done prior to third year (level 3A)
  • Joint Honours students whose first major also has required research methods and statistics courses may be exempt from the Psychology research methods and statistics courses (PSYCH 291 and 292). However, students still need to take a minimum of 16 PSYCH courses to complete the "Old" Joint Honours Psychology requirements.

  • Students whose first major is Psychology are NOT permitted to take substitute courses in place of PSYCH 291/292.

Psychology course waivers do not reduce the overall number of academic units required for the degree. This means that if you are exempt from e.g., PSYCH 291 and/or 292, you must replace those required course(s) with another PSYCH course(s) at any level (so that your final total PSYCH course count is at least 8.0 units - 16 courses).
