Katelyn Godin
Katelyn Godin graduated from the BSc Health Studies Honours Co-op program in 2013 with a Gerontology Minor. She completed her PhD in Public Health and Health Systems under the supervision of Professor Scott Leatherdale in 2018. Her research focused on how the school context (i.e., school-based programs, policies, and facilities) influences youth's health behaviours and outcomes, specifically within the realm of healthy eating and obesity. During her PhD, Katelyn was the Co-Chair of the University of Waterloo’s Chapter of the Canadian Obesity Network – Students and New Professionals and a Board Member on the Community Research Ethics Board. Katelyn is now working as a Policy Analyst at the Public Health Agency of Canada, in the Prevention of Problematic Substance Use Unit. She also works as a course instructor in the Department of Health Sciences at Carleton University, where she has designed and is teaching a PhD-level course on grant applications and research ethics. Katelyn’s diverse background of work and volunteer experiences in academic, NGO, and government settings has allowed her to become skilled in public health research and policy.
Eden Amare
Eden Amare completed her Master of Health Evaluation at the University of Waterloo in 2018. She is now a Policy Development Officer at the City of Toronto. Eden has had various experiences in the field of public health including being an Evaluation Analyst at the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement and later a Program Evaluator at Toronto Public Health. Eden recently served as a Board member on the Canadian Evaluation Society-Ontario chapter. She was also a 2018 finalist in the Canadian Evaluation Society's Student Case Competition, representing the University of Waterloo! Eden enjoys applying her passion for evaluation, quality improvement, and health promotion to conduct organizational capacity building and improve social service programs that support marginalized populations.
Brendan Lew
Brendan Lew graduated from the BSc Health Studies Honours Co-op program in 2015 with a Pre-Health Professions Specialization. He attended McMaster University for their Doctor of Medicine program and is now a third-year resident doctor in Public Health and Preventative Medicine, and Family Medicine at McMaster. His interests include social determinants of health, health for people experiencing homelessness, addictions medicine and environmental health. During his undergraduate studies, Brendan started the Health Students Association and completed co-op terms at eHealth Ontario and The Hospital for Sick Children. He was also the president of AHSUM in 2014-2015! Brendan currently lives in Hamilton, and loves to spend his free time cycling, hiking, and playing board games.
