Eva Neufeld
Eva Neufeld, a valued member of the School of Public Health and Health Systems community, passed away on July 27 after a five-year battle with cancer.

Neufeld completed her PhD at Waterloo in 2013, was an adjunct lecturer and later a Fellow of interRAI Canada, based at University of Waterloo. She helped write several mental health care planning protocols for interRAI that are used internationally. She was also chair of the North East Suicide Prevention Network and a tireless advocate for better support systems for those left behind. Neufeld was working at a Laurentian University research centre and was cross-appointed to the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Human Sciences.

“Eva was a courageous woman who was completely dedicated to having a positive impact on mental health across the life course,” said Professor John Hirdes, her PhD supervisor and chair of interRAI Network of Canada. “She was selfless throughout her illness, continued working on scientific papers and continued to offer to contribute to our efforts. We have lost an impressive member of our alumni and interRAI family.”

Neufeld is survived by her husband and two young children. A memorial service is being planned in the Waterloo region for the fall and a GoFundMe project has been set up in her honour. Her obituary was published in the Sudbury Star.
