Last time we discussed open embeddings which are among “reasonable” types of morphisms. Before we can give our second example of such morphisms, which are called integral morphisms, we review integral extension of rings. We will briefly review open embeddings then we move on to take about integral extensions. We will show a few fundamental results about them and prove Nakayama’s Lemma. Time permitting (you probably know what this means) we will talk about how these notions arise naturally in number theory.
