“Valuated Matroids”
Valuated matroids were first introduced by Dress and Wenzel as an abstraction of matroids representable over a non-Archimedean valued field. We will review the cryptomorphically equivalent axiomatizations of valuated matroids in terms of bases and circuits. We will then see how valuated matroids describe the tropicalization of an ideal and vice-versa.
