"A Primer on Topological Data Analysis"

The hot new field of topological data analysis (TDA) is a form of “applied pure math”. It’s the art of applying algebraic topology to real-world data. In a tour of some basic TDA, I’ll touch on these questions: How do you build a topological space out of data? What topological information (here, algebraic invariants) should you calculate for such a space? How can you program a computer to do algebraic topology? How should you visualize and interpret the results?

No prior exposure to algebraic topology is required, but it’s helpful if you’re comfortable with the words “topological space” and “homeomorphism”.
