SUMMARY:Student Number Theory Seminar
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:AKSHAA VATWANI\, DEPARTMENT OF PURE MATHEMATICS\, UNIVERSITY OF
WATERLOO\n\n\"Variants of equidistribution in arithmetic progressions\"\n
\nIt is well known that the prime numbers are equidistributed\nin arithme
tic progressions. Such a phenomenon is also observed more\ngenerally for
a class of multiplicative functions. We derive some\nvariants of such res
ults and give a few applications. We also discuss\nan interesting applica
tion that relates to the Chowla conjecture on\ncorrelations of the Mobius
function\, and show its relevance to the\ntwin prime conjecture.
