SUMMARY:Algebra seminar
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:EHSAAN HOSSAIN\, PURE MATHEMATICS\, UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO\n\n\
"HILBERT'S SYZYGY THEOREM\"\n\nLast semester we studied the group $K_0$\,
whose elements are stable\nequivalence classes of projective modules. Tang
 ent to this\, I want to\ndiscuss the Quillen--Suslin Theorem\, which state
 s that every\nfinitely-generated projective module over a polynomial ring\
n$k[x_1\,\\ldots\,x_n]$ is free. On the topological side\, this says every
\nalgebraic vector bundle over affine $n$-space is free.
