 S ON SINGULAR SPACES” \n\nRiemannian stratified spaces arise in many con
 texts\, notably as the\ncompactifications of moduli spaces\, and on the K 
 ̈ahler-Einstein\nmanifolds studied recently by Donaldson\, Tian\, and man
 y other. We\ndiscuss various extensions of index formulas (such as the\nCh
 ern-Gauss-Bonnet formula) to these spaces\, work which was initiated\nby C
 heeger on manifolds with conical singularities in the 70s. The\nmain objec
