SUMMARY:Number Theory Seminar
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:NATHAN GRIEVE\, ACADIA UNIVERSITY\n\n\"ON SCHMIDT'S SUBSPACE TH
EOREM\, VOJTA'S HEIGHT INEQUALITIES AND\nALGEBRAIC POINTS IN PROJECTIVE VA
RIETIES: RECENT DEVELOPMENTS AND\nPROGRESS\"\n\nI will report on a collect
ion of recent results and ongoing work that\nsurround extensions and appli
cations of Schmidt's Subspace Theorem and\nVojta's height inequalities.
As two examples: (i) It is of interest\nto understand the qualitative feat
ures of Diophantine exceptional\nsets\; (ii) It is of interest to understa
nd the extent to which\nalgebraic points of a given bounded degree in a gi
ven general type\nprojective variety are not-Zariski dense.  As I will ex
plain\, there\nare several logically equivalent points of departure for th
ese\nresults.  They build on a collection of my past contributions in\nad
dition to work of many others.\n\nOnline\ntalk: https://uwaterloo.zoom.us
