DESCRIPTION:LEO JIMENEZ\, OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY\n\n\"SPLITTING DIFFERENTIAL
EQUATIONS USING GALOIS THEORY\"\n\nAn ordinary algebraic differential equ
ation is said to be internal to\nthe constants if its general solution is
obtained as a rational\nfunction of finitely many of its solutions and fin
itely many constant\nterms. Any such equation has an algebraic group actin
g as its Galois\ngroup. In this talk\, I will use decomposition theorems f
or algebraic\ngroups to show that some internal equations (do not) split i
nto a\nproduct of internal equations. The methods are model-theoretic and\
ncould be applied to other contexts. This is a joint work in progress\nwit
 h Christine Eagles.\n\nMC 5479
