SUMMARY:Joint Analysis/Geometry & Topology Seminar
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:MICHAEL FRANCIS\, WESTERN UNIVERSITY\n\n\"LOCAL NORMAL FORMS IN
COMPLEX B^K GEOMETRY\"\n\nThe b-tangent bundle (terminology due to Melros
e) is defined so that\nits sections are smooth vector fields on the base m
anifold tangent\nalong a given hypersurface. Complex b-manifolds\, studied
by Mendoza\,\nare defined just like ordinary complex manifolds\, replacin
g the usual\ntangent bundle by the b-tangent bundle. Recently\, a\nNewland
er-Nirenberg theorem for b-manifolds was obtained by\nFrancis-Barron\, bui
lding on Mendoza's work. This talk will discuss the\nextension of the latt
er result to the setting of b^k-geometry for k>1.\nThe original approach t
o b^k-geometry is due to Scott. A slightly\ndifferent approach that allows
for global holonomy phenomena not\npresent in Scott's framework was intro
duced by Francis and\,\nindependently\, by Bischoff-del Pino-Witte.\n\nThi
s seminar will be held both online and in person:\n\n* Room: MC 5417\n * Z
