SUMMARY:Student Number Theory Seminar
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Jérémy Champagne \n\n\"_Weyl's equidistribution theorem in fu
nction fields\"_\n\nFinding a proper function field analogue to Weyl's the
orem on the\nequidistribution of polynomial sequences is a problem that wa
s\noriginally considered by Carlitz in 1952. As noted by Carlitz\, Weyl's\
nclassical differencing methods can only handle polynomials with degree\nl
ess than the characteristic of the field. In this talk\, we discuss\nsome
recent methods which avoid this \"characteristic barrier\"\, and we\nshow
the existence of polynomials with extremal equidstributive\nbehaviour. \n
