SUMMARY:Algebraic Geometry Working Seminar
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:MARK HAMILTON\, MOUNT ALLISON UNIVERSITY\n\n_Toric degeneration
s and independence of polarization_\n\nIn the theory of geometric quantiza
 tion\, one essential ingredient\nis the choice of a \"polarization\"\; a
natural question is then whether\nthe resulting quantization depends on th
is choice.  One recent\napproach to the question of \"independence of pol
arization\" is using a\ndeformation of complex structure to \"deform\" one
polarization into\nanother.  Originally applied to smooth toric varietie
s\, this has also\nbeen applied to a broader class of examples\, such as f
lag varieties\,\nby using a toric degeneration.  \n\nIn this talk I will
present an overview of this program (including a\nshort introduction to th
e key ideas of geometric quantization)\, and\nmention several examples of
its application\, including flag manifolds\,\nmore general varieties\, and
moduli spaces of flat connections (work in\nprogress).\n\nMC 5403
