SUMMARY:Algebraic Geometry Working Seminar
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:JESSE HUANG\, UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO\n\nCohen-Macaulay Modules\
n\nCohen-Macaulay modules are central objects of study in commutative\nalg
ebra\, with deep connections to algebraic geometry\, singularity\ntheory\,
and homological algebra. In this talk\, we give a brief\noverview of the
 connection between Cohen-Macaulay modules and\ngeometric objects\, particu
larly how these modules can be used to study\nthe local behavior of variet
ies at singular points. Several classical\nexamples\, including modules ov
er regular local rings and isolated\nsingularities\, will illustrate the p
ractical utility of Cohen-Macaulay\ntheory in understanding algebraic stru
ctures. We will also touch on\nCohen-Macaulay modules over toric Gorenstei
n rings and the role of\nmirror symmetry in the study of these modules.\n\
