SUMMARY:Number Theory Seminar
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:ROY ZHAO\, TSINGHUA UNIVERSITY \n\nUnlikely Intersection Proble
ms and The Pila-Zannier Method\n\nThe Zilber-Pink Conjecture or the Mordel
l-Lang Conjecture predict that\nthe unlikely intersections\, be it for dim
ension reasons or other\ngeometrical reasons\, between a variety and famil
ies of special\nsubvarieties can be completely explained by only finitely
many special\nsubvarieties. In the past twenty years\, Pila and Zannier in
troduced a\nnew method to prove these types of problems by utilizing tools
from\no-minimality and functional transcendence. In this talk\, we will g
ive\nan overview of this method in some simple cases of the Andre-Oort\nCo
njecture. Then\, we will discuss our recent work and how it plays a\nkey r
ole in the Pila-Zannier method proof of the full Andre-Oort\nConjecture. \
