SUMMARY:Graduate Student Colloquium
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:SOURABH DAS\, UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO\n\nLove\, Life\, and the M
 ath Behind It -  Solving the Ultimate Equation\n\nFinding love isn’t ju
 st about fate\, chemistry\, or the right swipe\n– it’s a problem. And
 if\n\nthere’s one thing math is great at\, it’s solving problems (well
 \,\nmost of them). In this talk\,\n\nwe’ll tackle the big questions of l
 ove using probability\, and a\ntouch of game theory:\n\n- What are the odd
 s of finding \"The One\"? (Spoiler: Finding aliens is\nactually more\n\nli
 kely.)\n\n- When should you stop searching and settle down? (Mathematicall
 y\, not\nemotionally.)\n\n- How happy are you in your relationship? (A mat
 hematical approach to\nthe age-old\n\nquestion: \"Do they really know me?\
 ")\n\nThe first two parts will involve some surprisingly useful math to he
 lp\nyou navigate the\n\ndating world and optimize your love life. The fina
 l segment? A game\ndesigned to test your\n\ncompatibility with a \"partner
 \" – a friend\, a crush\, or your\nlong-term love. To maximize\n\nenjoym
 ent (and potential awkwardness)\, attending in pairs is highly\nencouraged
 . In other\n\nwords: Bring a date. Or\, if you’re feeling adventurous\,
 let the math\ndo the matchmaking!\n\nMC 5417\n\n(snacks at 5:00pm)
