SUMMARY:Algebraic Geometry Working Seminar
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:CYNTHIA DAI\, UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO\n\n_Resolution of Singular
ities via Stacky Blow-ups_\n\nWe follow Dan Abramovich and Ming Hao Quek
’s paper on resolution of\nsingularity by multi-weighted blowups. This l
ine of work is first\nmotivated to give a more natural and motivated proof
of Hironaka’s\nresult\, and that leads to the notion of weighted blowup
\, where you\nrepeatedly blowing up the worst singular locus via weighted
blowups.\nThe problem with this is at the end you do not get an ambient sp
 ace\nthat’s smooth DM\, but log smooth(specifically it’s toroidal DM\n
stack). Using the technique of multi-weighted blowup introduced by\nSatria
no\, we can improve this result to get a logarithmic resolution\nof singul
 arity with a smooth ambient space.\n\nMC 5403
