SUMMARY:Student Number Theory Seminar
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:GIAN CORDANA SANJAYA\, UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO\n\n_Density of Sp
ecial Classes of Polynomials with Squarefree\nDiscriminant_\n\nIn this tal
k\, we discuss the problem of determining the local\ndensities of monic in
teger polynomials of fixed degree with squarefree\ndiscriminant\, with som
e conditions on the coefficients. Previously\,\nYamamura solved the case w
here no extra conditions are imposed\, and\nBhargava\, Shankar\, and Wang
proved that the global density of general\nmonic integer polynomials (of f
ixed degree) with squarefree\ndiscriminant is equal to the product of the
local densities.\n\nOur main case of interest is when the first two non-le
ading\ncoefficients are fixed. However\, we also obtain results on other\n
cases\, such as the case where the constant coefficient is fixed.\nMoreove
r\, the technique used here allows us to compute the local\ndensities exac
tly.\n\nThis talk is based on the recent preprint:\nhttps://arxiv.org/abs/
