SUMMARY:Student Number Theory Seminar
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:AJ FONG\, UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO\n\n_Galois actions on torus-in
variant curves of toric surfaces_\n\nWe are interested in studying the act
ions of the absolute Galois group\non curves on varieties. Toric surfaces
form an instructive class of\nexamples since they are geometrically well-u
nderstood\, and it is\nnatural to study torus-invariant curves here. In th
is talk I will\ndescribe upper bounds on the Galois actions\, and ongoing
 work\nregarding the inverse problem.\n\nMC 5479
