SUMMARY:Logic Seminar
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:BARBARA CSIMA\, UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO\n\n_Measuring complexity
of structures via their Scott Sentences_\n\nScott’s Isomorphism Theorem
shows that each countable structure can\nbe uniquely defined\, up to isom
orphism\, by a sentence of infinitary\nlogic\, now known as the _Scott Sen
tence_ of the structure. The\ncomplexity of a structure’s Scott Sentenc
e can then be viewed as a\nmeasure of complexity of the structure. In this
talk\, we will discuss\nthe relationship of Scott complexity with other m
easures of\ncomplexity\, as well as discuss the Scott Complexity of certai
 n\nstructures.\n\nMC 5403
