SUMMARY:Student Number Theory Seminar
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:JULIUS FRIZZELL\, UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO\n\n_The Unfair 0-1 Pol
ynomial Conjecture_\n\nThe unfair 0-1 polynomial conjecture states that if
  you have two monic\npolynomials\, with non-negative real coefficients\, a
nd their product\nhas only zeros and ones as coefficients\, then the origi
nal two\npolynomials also have only zeros and ones as coefficients. In thi
s\ntalk\, I will introduce the problem and some of the basic\nconsideratio
ns about it. Then I will discuss the current techniques\nbeing used to mak
e progress on this conjecture\, as well as possible\nfuture approaches. Al
ong the way\, we will see how facts about zeros of\npolynomials\, resultan
ts\, Taylor series\, and binary sequences are\nrelated. We will also discu
ss the computational steps required in the\ncurrent work on the problem.\n
