DESCRIPTION:NATHANIEL SAGMAN\, UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO\n\n_Complex harmonic m
aps and the Atiyah-Bott-Goldman symplectic form_\n\nThe field of higher Te
ichmuller theory has developed alongside the\ntheories of Higgs bundles an
d harmonic maps to symmetric spaces of\nnon-compact type. In this talk\, I
aim to give an introduction to\nharmonic maps and Hitchin components for
SL(n\,R) (examples of\nso-called higher Teichmuller spaces)\, and to prese
nt a new\ndevelopment: complex harmonic maps to holomorphic Riemannian sym
metric\nspaces. Along with surveying the basic theory\, old and new\, I wi
ll\nexplain how we used complex harmonic maps to prove that the\nAtiyah-Bo
tt-Goldman symplectic form determines a pseudo-Kahler\nstructure on the Hi
tchin component for SL(3\,R). This is joint work\nwith Christian El Emam.\
