SUMMARY:Geometry and Topology Seminar
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:SPENCER CATTALANI\, STONY BROOK UNIVERSITY\n\n_Ahlfors currents
and symplectic non-hyperbolicity_\n\nRational curves are one of the main
tools in symplectic geometry and\nprovide a bridge to algebraic geometry.
Complex lines are a more\ngeneral class of curve that has the potential to
connect symplectic\nand complex analytic geometry. These curves are non-c
ompact\, which\npresents a serious difficulty in understanding their sympl
ectic\naspects. In this talk\, I will explain how Ahlfors currents can be
used\nto resolve this difficulty and produce a theory parallel to that of\
nrational curves. In particular\, Ahlfors currents can be constructed\nvia
a continuity method\, they control bubbling of holomorphic curves\,\nand
 they form a convex set.\n\nMC 5417
