SUMMARY:Number Theory Seminar
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:STEPHEN MELCZER UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO\,\n\n_Analytic Combinato
rics in One and Several Variables_\n\nThe field of analytic combinatorics
develops effective methods to\ncompute the asymptotic behaviour of combina
torial sequences from\nanalytic properties of their generating functions.
This talk surveys\nthe classical methods of analytic combinatorics and det
ails the newer\narea of analytic combinatorics in several variables (ACSV)
\, which\nhandles multivariate sequences and their multivariate generating
\nfunctions. Applications to several areas of mathematics and computer\nsc
ience\, including number theory\, will be discussed. This talk will be\nco
mplemented by a presentation of Erica Liu on January 27 describing\nsome r
ecent progress on new approaches to ACSV.\n\nMC 5479
