SUMMARY:Number Theory Seminar
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:CARLO PAGANO\, CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY\n\n_Reconstructing curves f
rom their Galois set of points_\n\nMazur—Rubin asked to what extent one
can reconstruct a curve C over\na number field K from its set of points ov
er bar(K)\, viewed as a\nGalois set. They asked the same question specific
ally about the set of\nfields where C acquires new points and gave evidenc
e for a positive\nanswer for curves of genus 0. In this talk we will pre
sent upcoming\nwork with Zev Klagsbrun where we provide a positive answer
for a\ngeneric pair of elliptic curves with full 2-torsion over a number
\nfield. The method of proof uses the combination of additive\ncombinatori
cs and descent introduced in joint work of the speaker and\nKoymans in 202
 4. I will overview several other recent results\nobtained\, by a number of
  authors\, with that method.\n\nMC 5479
