 ction to the differential geometry of \ncurves and surfaces. In particula
 r\, I will give precise meaning to the\nintuitive notion of a 'curved' sur
 face or curve. We'll see how\ndifferential geometry extends notions from c
 alculus to more abstract\nspaces\; for example\, it allows us to do calcul
 us on a sphere\, torus\,\ncatenoid and so on.
