 ctions of the absolute Galois group\non curves on surfaces. As surfaces of
  intermediate type\, K3 surfaces\ncan be considered geometric analogues of
  elliptic curves. In this talk\nI will describe the combinatorial data con
 trolling the possible\nactions of the Galois group\, and ongoing work on c
 onstructing (more)\nexplicit examples of surfaces with the desired actions
