SUMMARY:Geometry and Topology Seminar | Cameron Krulewski | Invertible Fiel
 d\nTheories and the Bott Spiral
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:CAMERON KRULEWSKI (PERIMETER INSTITUTE)\n\n_Invertible Field Th
eories and the Bott Spiral_\n\nSymmetry-protected topological phases of ma
tter (SPTs) admit\ndescriptions in terms of homotopy theory. Freed--Hopkin
s defined\n\"free-to-interacting maps\" to model the physical process of c
omparing\nfree fermion SPTs (classified by K-theory) with more general\,\n
interacting models (classified by certain invertible functorial field\nthe
ories). With Debray and Stehouwer\, we generalized this approach to\nstudy
the \"Bott spiral\" of SPTs constructed by Queiroz--Khalaf--Stern.\nAfter
reviewing the homotopical classification of invertible field\ntheories\,
I will discuss our construction and some subtleties that\narise in definin
 g free-to-interacting maps\, such as compatibility with\ndimensional reduc
tion\, continuous versus discrete symmetry types\, and\nthe lack of intera
 cting Morita invariance.\n\nMC 5417
