SUMMARY:Model Theory Seminar | Rahim Moosa | Around the wild automorphism\n
 conjecture
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:RAHIM MOOSA (UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO)\n\n_Around the wild automo
 rphism conjecture_\n\nThe wild automorphism conjecture\, of Reichstein\, R
 ogalski\, and Zhang\nfrom 2006\, proposes that if a projective algebraic v
ariety X (in\ncharacteristic zero) admits an automorphism that leaves no p
roper\nsubvariety invariant then X is an abelian variety. I will discuss\n
recent work with Jason Bell where we use tools from the model theory\nof d
ifference fields (developed last year by Moshe Kamensky and I) to\nresolve
the “compound fundamental isotrivial” case. I will also\ngive a count
erexample to the naive nonautonomous generalisation of the\nconjecture\, e
xhibiting some of the difficulties in applying a\nmodel-theoretic analysis
