SUMMARY:Graduate student colloquium
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:IAN PAYNE\, PURE MATHEMATICS\, UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO\n\n\"I CA
N'T GET NO (CONSTRAINT) SATISFACTION\"\n\nThe objective of this talk is to
introduce the audience to the\nconstraint satisfaction problem\, or CSP.
This broad class of decision\nproblems was motivated by theoretical comput
er science\, but is of\ninterest to mathematicians since universal algebra
is the main tool\nused in the study of their complexity. I will define re
lational\nstructures\, which give the framework for the CSP.
