 eral methods for\ncertifying that a polynomial is nonnegative on a real pr
 ojective\nsubvariety.  We will then present new optimal degree bounds for
 \ncertificates on real projective curves.  This talk is based on joint\nw
 ork with Grigoriy Belkherman and Mauricio Velasco.\n\nRefreshments will be
