"Intro to Knots and Knot Invariants"

Knot theory is a fun branch of topology with flavours of algebra that has applications in biology and chemistry. Though many concepts in knot theory are rather intuitive and somewhat easy to state, most of them are quite deep and involve a good amount of machinery to work with. In this talk we will discuss some basic ideas of knot theory and partially address the question of “How can we tell two knots apart?”. We will talk about some invariants of knots such as colourability and knot polynomials and look at some relationships between these invariants.
