"Cohen¹s Factorization Theorem"

Paul Cohen is well known as being a Field¹s Medalist in logic, but it is
less well known that he began his career as a harmonic analyst. This
talk will be about Cohen¹s Factorization Theorem ‹ a theorem about
Banach algebras which has had significant impacts within harmonic
analysis. I plan to discuss how this theorem can be used to solve easily
stated problems about convolution products and Fourier series. No
knowledge of Banach algebras or harmonic analysis will be assumed.
