“The Burnside Problem”

In this colloquium we will discuss a problem commonly known as the Burnside problem, posed by English mathematician William Burnside in 1902. The problem asks: Given a group with m generators and of exponent n, is this group finite? If so, of what order? This is one of the fun- damental open problems in group theory. We will discuss what is known, how things were proved, which cases remain open, and the restricted Burnside problem. #yayalgebra #grouptheory #isitfinite? #youbetterattendmytalk
