“The basic large sieve inequality”

In this talk we will give a brief introduction to the large sieve inequality and some notable applica- tions in modern analytic number theory. We will prove the basic inequality using the Beurling-Selberg function. If time permits we will also derive the relevant version of the large sieve inequality for mul- tiplicative and additive characters.
