Professor Jason Bell has been named a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society (AMS) for 2021. Bell (BMath ’97) was selected as one of the 46 mathematical scientists from around the world and the only one from a Canadian university.

We remember Distinguished Professor Emeritus János Aczel

János Aczel

We are sad to share the news that János Aczel passed away on January 1, 2020 following a brief illness only six days following his 95th birthday. János became a professor in the Department of Pure Mathematics in 1965 after holding positions at the University of Cologne, Lajos Kossuth University, University of Miskolc, and University of Szeged.

Born in Budapest, Hungary in 1924, János completed his bachelor and master’s degrees at the University of Budapest, as well as his doctorate in mathematical analysis.

Faculty member wins 2018-2019 Award of Excellence in Graduate Supervision

Professor Cameron Stewart is respected and admired for the care, knowledge, insight, and wisdom that he has provided to his students throughout his 40-year long career at the University of Waterloo. Over his career, 22 Master’s students and 11 doctoral students obtained degrees under his supervision and he provided guidance to 18 postdoctoral fellows.
