Instructions for using the University of Waterloo Classification and Records Retention Schedule (WatCLASS)

WatCLASS is the approved classification scheme and retention schedule for University of Waterloo records. It is a functional classification scheme, which means that records are organized by the functions and activities of the university, rather than by the organizational units that create and maintain them.

WatCLASS is still under development. Further entries will be added as they are identified.

Your input is invited for any sections highlighted as "Pending Approval." Please address questions or comments to Chris Halonen, University Records Manager.

In WatCLASS university records are organized in 12 functions:

Administration

Campus Services

External Relations and Communications

Finance

Governance

Health, Safety, and Security

Human Resources

Information Management

Properties and Facilities

Research Management

Student Management
